HCFS COMMITTEE
Hospice care in facility settings committee (HCFS) Mission Statement: “We collaborate between long term care and hospice to provide expert end of life care”. Our objectives are to analyze issues unique to hospice care delivery in nursing homes and other facility settings
· To facilitate the process between hospice and quality end of life care due to an increasingly apparent need in the community/facility.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Committee Responsibilities: Oversees and directs the business affairs of the organization including financial and budgetary, board nominations & elections, board meeting agendas, review and recommendation of organizational by-laws, and job descriptions and performance of the Chief Executive Officer. Current/recent activities include strategic planning recommendations, mid-year budgetary review, and orientation of new board members. Members of the executive committee are elected officers of the corporation.
EDUCATION
Committee Responsibilities: Responsible for all MHPCO educational activities and events. Works with staff to plan, conduct, and evaluate conferences and seminars including Annual Memberships conference, Hospice Aide Conference, Volunteer Symposium, audio conferences and others. Develops and recommends consumer resource materials and training materials. Current/recent activities include: Assessment of the Annual Membership Conference, development and expansion of the MHPCO Audio Conference Series, planning and speaker selection for the Hospice Aide Conference and Volunteer Symposium.
LEGISLATIVE
Committee Responsibilities: Monitor State and National legislation, monitor regulations and standards that relate to hospice care and the development of hospice programs, and make recommendations with the MHPCO Board of Directors. Develop strategies for input into the legislative and regulatory process. Develop legislative agenda for the organization, and plan annual legislative awareness day. Current/recent activities include: monitoring legislative bills impacting the reuse of prescription medication, criminal background checks for health workers, license plate fundraising for hospice, charitable organizations registration requirements, and the state budget for current FY, and Monitoring national budget activities surrounding Medicaid and Medicare funding.
PUBLIC, COMMUNITY & MEMBER RELATIONS
Committee Responsibilities: Promote hospice concept and philosophy to the public, community, and membership. Provide public relations, prepare annual communication plan, and develop and promote membership and member services. Current/recent activities include: marketing and implementation of the Caring Choices Community toolkit, promotion of the volunteer symposium, and the development of value added member services, development of the MHPCO communication plan, and preparations for National Hospice Month in November.
